The striped dolphin is one of the most dynamic and energetic species of dolphins. Known for its playful behavior, it often leaps and spins in the air, earning it the nickname "the acrobat of the sea." These dolphins are easily recognized by their striking blue-gray bodies with white or light blue stripes running along their sides.
Striped dolphins are highly social, living in pods of up to hundreds of individuals. They use echolocation to navigate and hunt for squid, fish, and crustaceans. Found in tropical and temperate oceans, striped dolphins are known for their speed, reaching up to 37 miles per hour (60 km/h).
However, they face threats from bycatch in fishing nets, pollution, and habitat degradation. International conservation efforts are critical to protecting these charismatic marine mammals.
